Did You Know?

Now that you own a piece of unique, handmade, artisan jewelry. How do you care for it to ensure that it lasts a lifetime?

Fine silver to too soft for most jewelry. Sterling silver is stronger and therefore better for jewelry that is frequently worn.

Gold & fine silver does not tarnish!

It’s the copper and other alloys in Sterling silver that causes it to tarnish.

Tips

Caring for Your Artisan Jewelry

  1. 1.Last on, First off - Remembering to put on your jewelry last when you're getting ready (after make-up, perfume, etc) and taking it off first (before washing your face, etc) will help keep your jewelry clean.

  1. 2.Wipe your piece down periodically with a polishing cloth (even the kind to clean eyeglasses works fine) to remove dirt, oils, perfumes, etc.

  1. 3.If you have a treated cleaning cloth, try not to wipe any gems or crystals. It may leave a film that dulls them or worse, damage some delicate gems.

  1. 4.If possible, store in a wood, cloth, or even plastic container to help prevent tarnishing. (moisture is number one in causing sterling and copper to tarnish)

  1. 5.Especially for copper, keep away from moisture and wipe down the inside of rings where the metal touches your finger. This will help keep the oxidation that causes skin to go a bit green to a minimum.

  1. 6.Try to NEVER swim in your jewelry. Chlorine will affect your jewelry. Depending on the level of chlorine, your silver and copper could turn anywhere from just dull and grey to black! If that happens, just email me on what to do! I should be able to help!
